2022 Tryouts for AAA and Majors

Dear KPLL families,

Baseball season is almost upon us! Next Sunday, March 13, we will be holding the tryouts for our AAA and Majors levels So we wanted to pass along some important information.

When: Sunday, March 13
Where: The Mt. Hope High School Gymnasium.
Who: All players aged 9-12. 8 year olds are also welcomed, and encouraged to attend. The tryouts will be broken into the following sessions.
— Those trying out for Majors are asked to attend from 10:00am-11:30am.
—AAA tryouts will be from 11:30am-1:00pm.

Tryouts are mandatory for these levels, so if your child cannot attend, please let us know ASAP so that we can mark them as excused.

When you arrive, please check in with the registration table to confirm attendance and review registration / payment status. If your child is interested in being a pitcher or catcher, let the registration folks know so that the player can be marked accordingly for coaches awareness. There will also be stations for pitchers and catchers during the tryouts.  Players should wear athletic clothes, sneakers (no cleats) and also bring a bat, helmet and glove. If a player is trying out as a catcher, and has their own catchers gear, please bring that as well. The league will also have a few sets of catchers equipment available to use during the tryouts for those who do not yet have their own gear.

For those not familiar with the Little League age definition, a players Little League age is not based on their current age, but rather how old they will be on August 31 of this year. So for example, if a player is currently 8 years old, but will turn 9 on or before August 31, they count as a 9-year old for this season.

Our AAA and Majors divisions will once again include teams from both KPLL and the Warren Little League. Based on our registration numbers, KPLL plans on drafting 3 teams for the Majors division, and 3 teams for the AAA division. Here is how the levels will breakdown by age:

(12): All 12 year old players are required to play at the Majors level per Little League regulations.

(11-10): 11 and 10 year olds are eligible to be drafted to Majors. Once we have filled three Majors teams, all remaining undrafted 11 and 10 year olds will be put into the AAA draft pool. If you DO NOT want your 10 or 11 year old child to be considered for Majors, please let us know, so that we can take that into consideration.

(9): 9 year old players will not be considered for Majors, and default to the AAA draft pool. So 9 year-olds should plan on the 11:30 session. If you are concerned your 9-year old is not ready for the AAA full kid-pitch level, please reach out to us and we can discuss possible options, including placing them into our Double A division for this season.

(8): There will be an extremely limited number of spots left in AAA for interested 8 year olds. Roster spots are reserved first for all 9, 10 and 11 year olds. Regardless, all 8 year old players are welcomed and encouraged to attend the 11:30 session, as this provides a chance to get introduced to the tryout process.

AAA and Majors teams will be drafted later in the day, and players should begin receiving a welcome to their new teams by Monday, March 14. For 8 year olds who do not make it onto a AAA roster, the Double A rosters will likely be determined shortly after registration closes at that level at the end of March.

Thank you again for being part of the KPLL family. As always, do not hesitate to reach out with any further questions.
Thanks
